We Stand for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

We seek a future where diversity is celebrated not oppressed.

So, today and moving forward, Splendid Cycles, and its staff, publicly acknowledges its support of Black, Indigenous, Asian, Alaska Natives, Pacific Islanders, all People of Color, and LGBTQ people. We support policies and actions that support all people in all aspects of life. If we don’t act now to rid ourselves of the violence perpetuated by racism and other forms of oppressive discrimination, we have failed society.

We stand to be counted among the many who are seeking change toward an equitable society free from racial oppression and free from violence. We are learning about our biases, our privilege, our white fragility, and our complicity by paying attention to how we cause harm through action and inaction.

We will work on ourselves looking honestly at, and challenging, what we perceive as “normal”, while also acknowledging how our privilege has influenced our perceptions. We acknowledge the urgency of eliminating injustice and violence. We know that we cannot expect peace until all humans are treated fairly, justly, and with equity. AND, we must work for that peace.

We believe the changes brought by this work, done personally and as a collective, will create a better city, community, country, and society for all Black people, indigenous people, people of color, LGBTQ people, and their allies. We pledge to take action now and in days to come, including action to:

  • Work to create a safe, inclusive, and equitable environment: it is our responsibility to assure that customers and staff feel safe in our shop.

  • Amplify Black, indigenous, people of color , and LGBTQ voices : As white people, it is our duty to use our privilege to listen to and amplify the voices that have gone unheard for so long.

  • Stand against racism and homophobia: It is our job to help other white people change. We will speak out when we see or hear racist violence. Racist words and behavior are not tolerated in our store.

  • Contact elected officials: we will continue to write to our local, state, and federal representatives urging them to support legislation and funding that supports anti-racist and equity focused actions and programs.

  • Continue to learn, and about work on, anti-racism: it’s an ongoing process, we have a lot of unlearning/de-conditioning to do.

  • VOTE! Elected officials should represent the people. If they are falling short on that task, we will campaign, vote, and replace them.

We invite you to join us.
