Winther from Denmark
We are very excited to offer another high quality cargo brand with the Danish brand Winther. These bikes are as well designed as any bike we've seen. Moreover, with their 21st century designs and engineering you get lighter, easier to ride, and the safest cargo bikes which are perfect for Portland...so check em out.
Wallaroo
The Winther Wallaroo offers a very lightweight aluminum frame and a step-thru design for easy maneuverability off the bike. Additionally, the Wallaroo has the same light
aluminum frame as the Bullitt cargo bike (minus a top tube) with similar modern components and a probably the nicest front kiddy cabin we have seen yet. The Wallaroo is the perfect complement to the flashy hot rod Bullitt. Even though the Wallaroo is a bit more subdued, what makes this bike so nice is the weatherproof cabin for 2 large kiddo's and the step thru frame for a easier to ride bike that fits a wider range of people. Even with the changes, it is almost every bit the lightweight performer as the Bullitt. Lastly, Splendid Cycles will be offering a "Portland upgrade" on the Wallaroo that will include a more efficient Shimano 8 speed Alfine hub and hydraulic disc brakes. These upgrades will make this already fine cargo bike a bit safer and more appropriate for the hills of Portland.
The integrated nylon cover and polyethylene base are perfect for all-weather use. Inside is a spacious cabin with seats and five-point safety harnesses for two children.

Kangaroo
The frame construction on the 3 wheeled Kangaroo Bike is light, strong and torsionally-stable.
It is built of 6061 aluminum ensuring a strong and lightweight design. The patented 3-point steering system ensures rigidity and good stability. The torsion bar suspension ensures excellent passenger comfort. Note the lean of the bike frame in the photo to the left. This addresses a common problem of cornering instability found in other 3-wheel cargo bikes. Our favorite feature of the Kangaroo is that it has hydraulic disc brakes on the 2 front wheels. The advantage of hydraulic brakes in this application is enormous as the braking power is much better than cable brakes, but most importantly the modulation is perfect between the left and right wheels making for a safer and better performing cargo trike that does not "pull" to the left or right when braking. The Kangaroo is a super convenient-super stable bike that makes it perhaps the ultimate human powered minivan.
For a fabulous review of the Kangaroo from a blogger in Chicago, go here.
Here is a great review of 5 trikes/bikes from the Danish newspaper 24 Timer and posted on Copenhagenize.com. What is interesting about this review, is that 4 of the 5 trikes/bikes reviewed are available in Portland. Only the Winther Kangaroo wins 5 out of 5 stars. Excerpts from the review:
Maneuverability: The steering system is solid and reliable and it is almost impossible to tip the bike over. Good for cargo bike beginners.
Space and gear: The cargo bay is gorgeous, with two seats and good seatbelts.
Functionality: The two seats can easily be removed and used, for example, on the beach in summer. The kickstand is at the front of the cargo bay so the bike doesn't tip when the kids climb in. It is easy to manouvre when not biking, since it is no problem to lift the bike from the back and do the 'wheelbarrow'.
Safety: The cargo bay has the safest upper frame in the test, which provides protection if you tip over. The brakes are hydraulic, providing a unique and solid braking feeling. They work well and are easy to keep in good shape.
I have also heard it described that cyclists like 2 wheels, and everybody else likes 3. Come in and ride one and see what you think.
Complete trike price - $4000
