Who's Leading the Way

Here are a few examples of Splendid Cycles customers and acquaintances using cargo bikes in their business.

Give Pizza A Chance  give_pizza_a_chance.jpg

This food cart in Downtown Portland utilizes a Bullitt cargo bike with large delivery box on the front of the bike. If you need 10 pizzas delivered to that important lunch meeting, they are the place to call. When the bike is not delivering it is in front of the cart advertising the brand and image of the business. Give Pizza a Chance never has to worry about parking in the crowded Downtown area…ever. The most brilliant reason a cargo bike makes sense in downtown Portland is you must have a paid permit to put up a small sandwich board out on the sidewalk, but guess what, the larger and more noticeable cargo bike requires no permits and is free!   You see, a cargo bike properly set-up will perform on all levels while saving your business money.

River City Mobile Veterinary Service

Matthew Marasco, DVM, is a small animal veterinarian with over 28 years of experience. Dr Marasco's practise includes in-home preventative and wellness visits for your dogs and cats. According to his website, "He will schedule a visit in your pet’s home and bring along everything needed, including an assistant if necessary. When a pet’s quality of life has diminished, Dr. Marasco is prepared to provide palliative care, as well as euthanasia when further treatment is no longer possible, and suffering can not be relieved."

He conducts physical exams, blook work, vaccines and consultations all supported via cargo bike; serving the South Waterfront and within a 5-mile radius in Portland, Oregon. He's Portland's first mobile, by bike veterinarian. His house-calling cargo bike of choice? The Ahearne Cycle Truck complete with waterproof and lockable aluminium cargo box mounted on the front rack.

Seattle Sperm Bank

Located near the University of Washington campus in Seattle, Washington, the Seattle Sperm Bank is the US laboratory for the European Sperm Bank, of Copenhagen, Denmark. They collaborate with and supply well-established fertility clinics throughout the world. When they saw that their sister company in Denmark was turning heads with its Bullitt Sperm Bike, Seattle Sperm Bank contacted Splendid Cycles to investigate having one of their own. The result is a bike that's already brought lots attention to the company in a very short period of time. They are a great example using the visability a cargo bike provides with unique company branding to optimize PR opportunities.

Aqueduct Logistics Systems -Human Scale Delivery for Upper Manhattan and the Bronx

Aqueduct Logistics is a new company formed to address a longstanding need for proven, effective "last mile" delivery solutions in the dense urban environment of Upper Manhattan and the Bronx. Using a combination of cargo bicycles and trailers, Aqueduct's employees can haul your goods to their destination in less time than a box truck or van, without receiving tickets, blocking traffic, blocking fire hydrants, or wasting time looking for loading zones.

As well as a service for picking up or delivering your goods, Aqueduct is a human-scale marketing solution. We offer display advertising on the sides of our bikes and trailers, and our drivers are visible to everyone, able to answer questions (how late are you open?), hand out literature or flyers, and stop to chat with neighbors and passersby. Which custom-designed  eyecatching vehicles is Aqueduct using? The Bullitt Milk Plus with BionX and Surly trailer are the haulers of choice for Aqueduct.

Garden By Cycle

gardenbike_1a.jpgThis small gardening business in SE Portland is a dedicated bicycle-based business. When the owner, Elizabeth Bryant needed a bicycle upgrade to keep her business growing (pun intended) she chose a Kona Electric-Ute. The electric-assist long bike not only provides the horse power needed for hauling tools and compost uphills to clients, it also is the perfect bike for transporting her daugter from home to school to farmer's markets and picnics after work.

St Francis Plumbing

How about a plumber who travels by Kona Ute and large cargo trailer?  Joshua deParrie is your plumber on a cargo bike and willing to pedal to your place (but not too far…keep it local) and perform any repair or install.  He specializes in grey water systems…another brilliant idea!

Trailhead Coffee Roasters

trailhead_coffee_a.jpgWith dozens of coffee roasters popping up in town, Trailhead Coffee Roasters is one roaster who is turning heads and getting noticed. First, they do have award winning beans. But, secondly, they also boast a beautiful custom Metrofiets Cargo Bike that makes regular deliveries  to local cafes like Cafe Destino and works as a mobile café. On Farmer's Market days in Portland, you can find Charlie Wicker out promoting his fantastic coffee on his custom coffee bike built by Metrofiets and Trailhead.  The bike is an amazingly beautiful creation built to combine two of the greatest joys in life…bicycles and coffee.  The PR Trailhead receives because of the cargo bike allows his business to stand tall in the forest of Portland coffee.  The logistics and overhead of rolling out to a farmers market on a heavily loaded cargo bike instead of a motor vehicle makes Charlie’s life much more rewarding with more dollars leftover for doing fun things like this.

Broken Frame Bakery

Adam Kennedy has been setting up a wonderful baking business delivering to café’s and coffee shops here in Portland….and the reward for working all night creating artisanal breads and pastries?  He gets to load up his Metrofiets Cargo Bike  and deliver the goods.  Another wonderful idea we think.
