Meet Our Staff

Joel Grover - owner

Joel has over 20 years of bike retail experience and many more years of experience riding bikes. His bike knowledge runs deep, as does his ability to bring you the best products at a great value.

Joel has a sincere desire to help you transition to a low-car or no-car lifestyle. Because of his experience and knowledge he can tailor solutions to fit your unique utility bike needs. While many still depend on automobiles for the heavy hauling, a cargo bike has the ability to do everything a car can do in the city for a lot less money. Let Joel show you how!

Barb Grover - owner

Barb started in the bike biz in 1987, since then she's done it all from selling bikes to leading rides to teaching cycling skills. Her passion is helping others discover the joys of cycling. She's very happy to be working with Joel to get more folks on cargo bikes.

Barb loves to change perceptions for how bikes, and cargo bikes can be used. For example, birding by bike is one of her pastimes. Through her interest in the bike-bird connection, Splendid Cycles is now a sponsor of the Portland Audubon Roadrunners Birdathon Team (an event otherwise reliant on cars for transport). She uses her electric-assist Bullitt for around-town grocery getting but also for longer commutes (into Vancouver, Washington), and dreams often of cargo bike touring in the Pacific Northwest and beyond.

Brian Twilley - Ace Mechanic

Splendid Cycles feels incredibly fortunate to have Brian on board as a member of the Splendid family, and as our mechanic. With over 18 years of experience at some of the best bike shops in the country, he's developed the ability to fix anything-and do it right the first time. Besides all of that experience, he holds multiple Shimano certifications including hydraulic brakes and Dyna-sys drivetrains. No doubt, he's the guy you want building and repairing your bike.

He has a whole cornucopia of other skills that we rely upon. In addition to his gig at Splendid Cycles, he's the man behind Bespoke Cycle Service. He's developing his skills as a machinist and helps us fabricate some of the custom parts needed to properly complete electric-assist and cargo bike accessory installations. The brackets we use to install Supernova lights were produced by Brian.
